It was the vision of many Muslims in the Oadby and Wigston area to form a unified and coherent group in order to serve the local Muslim population. A number of dedicated Muslim brothers and sisters took it upon themselves to get together more than 12 years ago, in the hope of fulfilling this vision. This group grew in strength with time, and over 4 years ago the charitable organisation, Oadby and Wigston Muslim Association ("OWMA") was established. Aims The OWMA is a registered charity (Registered Charity number 1108355), democratically set up and run by local Muslims, with the primary aim to enhance and promote the Islamic faith in the Oadby and Wigston area and provide appropriate premises for a dedicated Muslim Cultural Centre for the community. Additionally the Muslim School Oadby (a supplementary school) provides Islamic education to children between the ages of 5 and 12 and classes are currently held at the OWMA Community Centre on Sandhurst Street, Oadby. |
